Your Ultimate Guide to Visiting Warrandyte, Melbourne

Warrandyte is located only 30km Northeast of Melbourne’s CBD. You can get here by car, and public transport. This relaxing riverside town is the perfect day trip or weekend getaway for locals and travelers alike. You can enjoy a peaceful stroll along the Yarra River or chose a more challenging hike. You can relax in one of the delicious cafes or enjoy a pie and sweet pasty from the local bakery. You can shop in expensive boutiques, and art galleries or find a bargain in the local Op Shop. Whatever your style of travel is, I think that Warrandyte offers something for everyone.

I write this post after my visit this evening. It was such a beautiful night. I walked in the golden hour where the sun casts a soft light on the water. I love this time; the trees look greener, the flowers look brighter, and the photos always come out looking amazing.

Today was 27 degrees so it was still warm even though I was walking at 6pm. Many people were out walking their dogs. Couples held hands as they strolled. A family was kayaking and swimming in the water. I had been a bit stressed in the day. But, I was soon smiling. Warrandyte was working its magic as it always does.

To explore Warrandyte River Walk, I suggest parking at the car parks either side of the Bridge. From here you can walk down the river for 2.5km. There is a main path or you can explore the smaller paths that hug the water. Once a month on a Sunday they also hold a really good market here.

Warrandyte Bakery

This bakery has delicious fresh bread, pastries, pies, sausage rolls, and sweets. When you walk in you can see a list of the pies in the oven for the day. The coffee and hot chocolate is also very nice. I love this bakery as it is the perfect stop for a casual lunch. It is a riverfront bakery with plenty outdoor seating next a big adventure playground. The area is dog friendly, but dogs are on leash at all times in this area.

The Grand Hotel Warrandyte

This is a historic pub serving modern Australian cuisine with an outdoor terrace overlooking the Yarra River. You can sit inside or outside. The indoors area is very big. It has a few different rooms. These rooms are perfect for private functions if you are going with a big group. Whenever I drive passed, the Hotel is packed with people giving it a buzzing atmosphere. I have eaten dinner here many times and have not been disappointed. They have a large menu and you order from the counter. The food is bought to you and you can get drinks at the bar.
